Feinstein (the senator) No Einstein (the scientist)

Methamphetamine: Back in 1990’s sponsored federal laws making the chemicals used to manufacture meth almost impossible to obtain. Even off-the-shelf cold meds (think “Contact” brand) became limited to how many one could purchase because small amounts of pseudo methamphetamine could be derived easily from them. Stupid idea. Before Diane’s brilliant idea to decrease demand by shrinking supply, the meth trade was one of the few underground drugs that didn’t have to cross borders. Attacking suppliers has worked so well in the past. Prohibition was such a success! As predicted by the rest of us who think about drug policy rather than just demagogue it, all that happened was the cartels started to manufacture and distribute meth with the same organizational expertise used to smuggle the rest of the drugs Americans want. Remember that one ton rock of meth found in an abandoned farmhouse in Mexico a few years ago? Instead of decreasing supply, once the cartels took over, retail meth prices collapsed and never recovered. Her plan made meth more affordable and increased use. She’s back again with more of the same. What’s the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing many times but expecting different results. Funny, that phrase used to be a description of drug addiction; a metaphor for how sad drug users were. If one is self-medicating for depression, hopefully, users are getting consistent benefits. Meth was originally prescribed by doctors for treatment of depression before made a schedule 1 substance. It can still be prescribed legally and is used mainly for treating narcolepsy. So instead of more criminalization, try a different approach, Senator Feinstein: leadership to put us on the road of decriminalizing all drugs for starters. After that, California can and should vote to remove her from office next election . Her policies have hurt drug users and made international drug cartels stronger than ever. In addition to voting, please write the senators writing this awful legislation and get friends as well: Just Say ‘KNOW’! No more forever wars!

Time-Space Dilation Effect?

Feinstein, Grassley, Peters, Curtis Introduce Bill to Confront Methamphetamine. Last Thursday, Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Representatives Scott Peters (D-CA) and John Curtis (R-UT) today introduced the Methamphetamine Response Act (SB 854), a bill declaring methamphetamine an emerging drug threat which would require the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) to develop, implement and make public a national plan to prevent methamphetamine addiction and overdoses from becoming a crisis. How closely ONDCP under BIden would focus on public health approaches, vs. old drug war approaches like increased arrests and sentences, remains to be seen. The bill is now before the House and Senate judiciary committees.
